3rd German-Japanese Consumer Forum

The third German-Japanese Consumer Forum seeks to foster a fruitful discussion about the responsibilities of the Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) in account of current issues as well as the interaction of consumer and consumer organizations and their participation in politics. Case studies which concern both countries are presented to further deepen the mutual understanding.

As a newly established commission the CAA is in charge of the management of consumer affairs. At the time of the establishment of the CAA the first two German-Japanese Consumer Forums took place. Consumers in Germany and Japan face similar issues, for example telephone marketing, food safety, debt redemption and data security. The third German-Japanese Consumer Forum the seeks to foster a fruitful discussion about the responsibilities of the CAA in account of current issues as well as the interaction of consumer and consumer organizations and their participation in politics. Case studies which concern both countries will be presented to further deepen the mutual understanding.

On the 3rd of March, the topics „National government, state government / local administration and consumer advice centers” as well as “The role of consumer organizations” will be addressed. On the 4th of March three panels will be held: Panel 1 “Consumer education”, Panel 2 “Difficulties for older consumers” and Panel 3 “Lawsuits of associations and class actions of consumer organizations”. In each panel the German and Japanese policy approaches that aim to foster consumer protection will be compared.
