Regional integration in East Asia and Europe: FES Japan seeks to introduce the experience of the EU integration into policy-debates on East Asian regional integration, which have been developing since the inception of the ASEAN+3 framework. While intra-regional frictions continue to pose an obstacle to processes of regionalization, dialogue aiming at the sharing of a mutually agreeable “historical consciousness” has become the core issue in this policy field.

FES supports transnational exchange and symposia on the legacy of the past and constructive dialogue such as the authoring of history textbooks by multinational groups of authors.
